Get your walking shoes on for CRY

January 16, 2012
By Guest Writer

This years Walkathon features a lovely local route

CRY (Care and Relief for the Young) is a local Christian charity, based in Hedge End. Working with partnership projects in 16 different countries around the world we are able to rescue & restore young lives broken by poverty, oppression, exclusion & abuse.

The CRYWalk 2011 participants raised a staggering £13,079.76, which we were able to use to help, amongst other projects,  reduce infant mortality rates in Cambodia, rescue children from the streets in Ukraine, feed children in Albania & help combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in South Africa,

CRYWalk 2012 will be our sixth annual sponsored walk…and the ‘Walkathon’ is back… so get those walking boots out and choose your route:

26 miles – THE WALKATHON – along the Itchen Way to Winchester and back

15 miles – along the Itchen Way to Shawford and back

7 miles – along the Itchen Way within Itchen Valley Country Park

4.5 miles – within Itchen Valley Country Park

With all routes starting & ending at Itchen Valley Country Park there is a distance to suit all abilities, from pushchairs to power walkers, family fun to fitness fanatics…. and we’ll even give you cake & refreshments when you get back.

Every year local schools, clubs & churches get involved in helping to raise money for CRY.  It’s a great way to meet new people and to get to know your local community, and in 2012 we would love even more people to join us for what is always a brilliant event.

So, are you a walking group? A guide troop? A local business? Why not enter a team this year? You could even have a competition to see whether the IT department can raise more money than accounting!

The money raised is hugely important in caring for disadvantaged, destitute and suffering children, young people and their families. It will go towards projects such as the children’s homes Home of Hope in Albania and Father’s House in Ukraine. The Homes do a fantastic job rescuing and restoring children, who have come from difficult family backgrounds or even the streets, Both the Home of Hope and Father’s House aim to provide them with appropriate opportunities for a better future.

To achieve this CRY needs you! We are looking for those of you who love a challenge, enjoy walking or running or just want to get out into the beautiful countryside that surrounds us here in Hampshire.

All sponsored participants will receive a medal, certificate & a goody bag. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to impact another person’s life – register now for a small admin fee of £6 and be guaranteed your CRYWalk 2012 t-shirt.

For more information about how to register for the walk please contact Lindsay Snuggs on 01489 788300 or email ukoffice@cry.org.uk. You can also register directly online at http://www.cry.org.uk/cry-walk
