February 25, 2012
By

Eastleigh College celebrated another successful year for students and staff with their 2012 Annual Awards ceremony this week. College staff, students, governors and business partners gathered together at the College’s main campus to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the staff and students.

Among the many awards presented, several students received the prestigious Governors’ Awards; these are picked annually by the College Governors, to reward success and achievement in a particular area. Winners this year included the Access to Higher Education students, who received the Student Team of the Year award in celebration of their excellent team working and spirit, and Level 2 Beauty Therapy student Chloe Everidge, who won the Vocational Student of the Year award. Kristina Lewis was the recipient of the Governors’ Award for Endeavour, for her dedication and hard work on the Access to Higher Education course.

Thirteen students received individual College prizes in recognition of their exceptional progress in their chosen subject area, whilst several College staff members were recognised for their achievements. Andy Holmes, Wood Occupations lecturer, won Teacher of the Year, and the Skills for Life team won Staff Team of the Year. Employer of the Year was Wheelers Travel for their contribution and commitment to education and training, with over 50% of their workforce having undertaken training at Eastleigh College, and Servisair who won the Work Experience Provider of the Year award.

Apprentice of the Year, Steve Burge, was grateful to the College and his employer for how far he has progressed in his career, commenting:

“The Apprenticeship has been very well organised, and very professional. My tutor has been very supportive and keen to push me to succeed, and my boss has really helped me find my feet in the industry.”

David Whistance, Counsellor of the Year, said:

“I’ve really enjoyed this evening. It has been great to be here to celebrate with friends and family. The course has been fantastic, with a fully integrated approach.”

The guest speaker at the ceremony was the Breakfast Show presenter from Capital Radio, Zoe Hanson. Zoe began the evening with a motivating presentation to the packed out audience, describing her successful journey to date in the radio industry, before presenting various prizes.

Zoe said:

“It’s a privilege to be here with so many outstanding achievers, in such a fantastic college, celebrating 50 years of success!

Congratulations to all award winners!
