Led Zep band to rock Concorde

Gutiarist Mike Jarvis brandishes authentic twin-neck guitar

Led Zeppelin fans will be on  ‘a stairway to heaven’ on Thursday night (March 1) as one of the south foremost tribute acts take to the stage of the Concorde Club to recreate the music of  what is widely regarded as Rock’s greatest band.

‘Black Dogz’, a four piece Brighton outfit, will be appearing at the Stoneham Lane club as part of  a season of ‘Thursday night tributes’. Although the club is renowned nationally as a leading jazz venue, during the course of its 50 year history it has featured some of the biggest names in rock, often at the start of their careers.

Local audiences had their first look at performers like Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Fleetwood Mac thanks to the club.

Drummer Kenny Stone, the founder of Black Dogz, says its important that people view them as a tribute band not just  another  ‘covers’ act.

“What I like to get across is the attention to detail within the music, performance, and style.

“We have spent many, many hours studying the music, musicianship, technique and performance of Led Zeppelin to ensure that the audience get a real sense of what it was like to experience a Led Zeppelin show, the energy, the excitement and the range of dynamics from song to song, even if on a smaller scale.

“Our aim at every performance is to have the audience believe, even if only for a split second during every song, that they are actually listening to Led Zep themselves”

    Rock’s “Greatest” band…?

I wouldn’t have said so, but I checked and Led Zeppelin do seem to feature at the top of this list

Led Zeppelin …theres a true rock band.
I have to admit they are one of my favourites. I also have to admit to playing thier music in my car quite loud, usually on the way home from work at the end of the week. It puts me in a great mood. But then, it works for me.

Interesting list Ray, although I don’t think of the Beatles as a rock band, nor Bob Marley, Prince nor the Bee Gees.

I like one or two of Led Zeps choons but generally not my cup of tea although I once did a set with Jimmy Page(‘s brother).
In any case whenever I think of twin-neck guitars I think of big f*ck off Mosrite’s, 900 mph chickin’ pickin’ and….
